Price on Pollution
Governments around the world are putting a price on pollution to force industry to reduce emissions. They are also using highly efficient data gathering equipment (satellite & sensors) that can track emissions, as well as climate changes.
A carbon tax has been introduced as a part of a package of environmental and health impacts from fossil fuel use. At the One Planet Summit in December 2017 leaders of governments, businesses and international organizations came together to discuss approaches to support and accelerate global efforts to fight climate change. 88 Parties have expressed that they are planning or considering the use of carbon pricing as a tool to meet their commitments. To date, 25 emissions trading systems and 26 carbon taxes have been implemented or are scheduled for implementation on an international level. Government of Canada fights climate change with tax on pollution. As Rachel Notley, Premier of Alberta, said “We’re going to reduce pollution by putting price on it”. The Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau, announced that there will be a federal system set up in Ontario, Manitoba, New Brunswick, and Saskatchewan in 2019. This global trend will help to accelerate action needed to alleviate emissions.
